Biography

 

Born on 14th January 1936 in Tunis - Tunisia.

 

Educated  in 'College Sainte Marie' from 1941 to 1949.

 

Emigrated to Malta on 24th September 1949.

 

Joined the British Army in Malta in 1954 at the age of 18 years and served both locally and abroad for a period of sixteen years:   The first six years where spent with the Corps of Royal Engineers, where he attended his first clerical course in 1956 (Cyprus) followed by occasional combat engineer exercises and military works projects in Libya.   The remaining ten years were served in the Royal Malta Artillery during which he was posted to Germany for three years,  mainly employed  on administrative duties when the regiment's role was principally that of a transport column.

 

After September 30, 1970, the R.M.A. ceased to form part of the British Army.   As a result,  Sciberras continued serving in the newly formed Malta Land Force / Armed Forces of Malta during which he was employed in various administrative duties.  In January 1991,  W.O I  Sciberras terminated his military career.  Nine months later, he was approached by the late Chev. Vincent Bugeja  C St J, Deputy Commander, St. John Rescue Corps,  to join the newly formed St John Rescue Corps. He immediately took on the offer assuming the responsibilities of Corps Quartermaster.  

 

Sciberras was appointed Senior Divisional Officer (Staff Officer Gr V) on 11th October 1991 following a course in basic first aid and light rescue. On 6th September 1995,  Sciberras was promoted to Divisional Commander (Staff Officer Gr IV).  He was awarded the Service Medal of the Order of St John on 16th December 2004 and was admitted to the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem as an Officer Brother on 13th July 2005.  On 1st November 2006, Sciberras was promoted to the rank of Staff Officer Gr III and remains in charge as Staff Officer Logistics.
